2019 was a very busy year for Ms. Rookey. On the operatic front, she brought in the year with Amahl and the Night Visitors as the Mother. She was then in Madama Butterfly as Mrs. Pinkerton and was shortly thereafter in a production of Gianni Schicchi with Opera Theater of the Rockies as Nella. She then starred as Laetitia in The Old Maid and the Thief with Opera in the Rock to stellar reviews. Throughout the year, she was engaged in productions of HMS Pinafore and The Wizard of Oz as a swing, several musical revues and cultural festivals, and private concert work. In January 2020, she returned to her home on the operatic stage with Opera in the Rock as Della in a new production of The Gift of the Magi.
Although most of her 2020 live performances have been cancelled due to safety concerns due to COVID-19, she has begun making socially isolated recordings at home with the help of some of her peers. She is featured on the soundtrack for the short film Strangers, (to be released July 2020) and will be a featured guest on the webseries Quarantenor, an educational by-weekly video series designed to introduce people to classical singing. Additionally, she has begun making at-home recordings to continue to entertain throughout this difficult time. (Note: Some of you may have heard that Ms. Rookey fell ill at the end of April. As of July, she is entirely recovered, voice included, and has begun recording music again.)
When live performances become feasible again, she will return to the stage. She is especially looking forward to joining the Clinton Foundation, the Clinton Presidential Library, and Opera in the Rock in Scalia/Ginsburg. She has the honor of playing Ruth Bader Ginsburg in this production hosted by the Clintons.
